TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State baseball used 13 runs in the first two innings to run-rule Valparaiso in the series opener Friday night at Bob Warn Field. With the victory the Sycamores improved to 25-7 overall and 2-2 in Missouri Valley Conference action while the Crusaders moved to 6-22 on the year and 1-6 in MVC play.

Senior
Clay Dungan hit two home runs in the contest while driving in four runs -- the second time the Yorktown, Indiana native has hit a pair of home runs in a game this season. Outfielder
CJ Huntley recorded a pair of hits and three RBI while
Max Wright drove in two runs and scored twice on a hit.

Southpaw
Triston Polley went seven complete, allowing just two runs on four hits to improve to 5-0 on the year. The senior struck out eight Crusaders and allowed just three walks in the outing. He retired seven-straight from the third to fifth inning and four-straight to close out the contest. Â

Dungan answered Valpo's first-inning home run with a leadoff home run to open the bottom of the first for ISU. The Sycamores would go on to load the bases on three-straight walks before Wright,
Luke Fegen and
Jarrod Watkins each reached on fielder's choice plays to score three runs.

Huntley capped off the first inning with a two-run triple off the wall in centerfield to score Wright and Watkins to make it 6-1 Sycamores after one inning.

After reaching on a one-out bunt single in the second,
Roby Enriquez would come home on a single from Wright to add to the Sycamore lead. ISU continued the barrage with five-straight base hits before Dungan put the exclamation on the inning with a three-run home run to center to close out the seven-hit second inning.

In total, ISU outhit Valparaiso 10-4 in the game while leaving just one runner on base.

Valpo's Sam Shaikin led his squad with two of the Crusaders hits -- both being solo home runs.

Jon Tieman was charged with the loss, dropping to 1-6 on the season. The right-hander gave up all 13 runs for the Crusaders though five were unearned in two innings on the mound. Keegan Bates and Michael Kornacker tossed four combined innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit over the stretch.

Weather will once again play a factor in the weekend series as Sunday's game has been canceled in lieu of a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. from Bob Warn Field.
