TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – After 12 games and 20 consecutive days on the road, Indiana State's softball team finally returns home to the friendly confines of Price Field as the Sycamores will host Southern Illinois in a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series starting Friday.
Â
First pitch for the series opener is set for 3 p.m. while a Saturday doubleheader is set to begin at Noon. Saturday's doubleheader will be broadcast live on The Valley on ESPN (ESPN3).
Â
Series History
Indiana State may trail the all-time series against Southern Illinois, 70-26, but the Sycamores have been tough to beat recently. Over the past five years, Indiana State has not lost a season series to the Salukis. The Trees were one out – and one controversial obstruction call – away from a series sweep in Carbondale last year.

Three Things to Know
- Welcome Back
Not only are the 2019 Sycamores finally returning home from a 12-game, 20-day road trip, Indiana State will welcome back members of the Sycamore family this weekend for the program's annual Alumni Weekend. Saturday, former Trees will be recognized prior to first pitch of the opening game of the doubleheader.
- Sims Sets Record
Leslie Sims had a notable doubleheader at Evansville on April 10 as she claimed the Indiana State career stolen base record, an impressive feat for only a junior. The speedy junior has 71 stolen bases to her credit as she topped the old Sycamore record of 68 swipes set by Amy Vaira (1992-95). But more than just ISU history, Sims is moving up the ranks in the Missouri Valley Conference charts. Her 71 steals rank sixth in the Valley annals as she chases the league record of 98 stolen bases set by Bradley's Kelly Kapp (2014-17).
- Not All Dingers Travel Far
Leslie Sims proved that you don't have to hit straight bombs to get credit for a home run. A junior, Sims hit an inside the park home run for the first time this season and second time in her career on April 10 at Evansville when she crushed the ball to right center in the first at bat of the game. She previously hit one to left center against Wright State in 2017.
