MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Bella Peterson was 2-for-3 at the plate but the Sycamores could not keep pace with a hot-hitting Belmont team in a 7-2 loss at the Memphis Softball Tournament Friday afternoon.
Â
In the end, Indiana State (8-8) struggled to limit the effectiveness of Brooklin Lee. Lee (5-2) finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, home run and two runs scored while also pitching a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out five.
Â
It was Lee's solo home run in the third after two scoreless innings that broke open the scoring. Peterson would respond in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single through the right side.
Â
The Bruins would get an RBI ground out in the fourth to take the 2-1 lead then a pair of RBI doubles followed by an RBI single in the fifth to extend their lead to 5-1.
Shaye Barton would keep the Trees within reach with an RBI single up the middle in the fifth, sending
Leslie Sims across the plate for the second time in the game, but Belmont would add a pair of runs in the seventh and retire the final seven batters of the game to prevent any Sycamore rally.
Â
Arielle Blankenship (3-3), one of three ISU pitchers to take the circle, was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits in four innings pitched.
