SYCAMORES OFF TO BEST START IN PROGRAM HISTORY
Sixth year head coach
Mitch Hannahs has his squad off to the best start in program history at 19-2. The Sycamores opened the season with seven-straight victories before recording nine-straight to open the month of March. Indiana State is 8-1 on the road, 6-1 at home and 5-0 in neutral site contests this season. In 1990, the Sycamores opened the season 13-1.
DUNGAN NAMED MVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dungan led the Sycamores with a .611 average at the plate over the last four games including a 4-for-5 outing against Indiana in midweek action. The lefty fell just a double short of the cycle against the Hoosiers, finishing with a pair of solo home runs, a triple and a single. Over the week, Dungan recorded at lead two base hits in each game to finish 11-for-18 at the plate. He led the team with a 1.056 slugging percentage and a .632 on-base percentage while scoring six runs and driving in two from his leadoff spot. The Yorktown, Indiana native was perfect in the field on 18 chances and 2-for-2 on stolen base opportunities.
LOOKING AT THE TREES
The Sycamores have seen their team average slowly climb this season, now hitting .293 as a squad.
Roby Enriquez leads the Sycamores with a .391 average while four other ISU batters are hitting above .300 on the year. Indiana State has the 22nd-best team ERA in collegiate baseball at 3.10 through the first third of the season. Senior
Tyler Whitbread leads all pitchers with a 1.74 ERA in five starts while sophomore
Jake Ridgway holds a 2.05 ERA after 12 appearances out of the bullpen. All three Indiana State weekend starters have ERA's under 3.50.
LOOKING AT THE FIGHTING ILLINI
Illinois enters the play at 17-4 after a weekend sweep of Illinois State. The Fighting Illini are led by Grant Van Scoy at the plate with a .380 batting average in 15 starts. Michael Massey (.355) and Kellen Sarver(.343) also provide strong bats in the order. Ty Weber leads all Illinois starters with a 1.52 ERA in four starts. As a team, Illinois holds a 3.34 ERA.
