TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State baseball won its ninth-straight game Sunday afternoon as the Sycamores earned a weekend sweep of The Citadel Bulldogs with an 8-0 shutout at Bob Warn Field. It marked the fourth weekend sweep of the season as ISU continued to build on its program-best 16-1 start to the year.

Right-hander
Tyler Whitbread and sophomore
Jake Ridgway combined for the shutout on the mound after allowing just four base hits and striking out nine on the afternoon. The contest also marked the third shutout for the Sycamores this season.
Â
Eight Sycamores recorded base hits while
Jarrod Watkins,
Max Wright,
Luke Fegen and
Chris Ayers each tallied two hits. Watkins went for the first triple of the season for the Sycamores in the fifth to score a run.
Â
The Sycamores jumped out to an early lead thanks to some small ball as a sacrifice fly from Ayers scored Wright for the first run of the game before
Clay Dungan used a safety squeeze to score Fegen and help ISU to a 2-0 lead in the second.
Â
Watkins nearly belted a two-out home run over the wall in right field, but would have to settle for an RBI triple that scored
Romero Harris. The Trees extended their lead in the sixth to 6-0 after Dungan recorded his second RBI on a bunt.
Jake Means would join the action with his fifth RBI of the weekend as he singled in Ayers from second with a ball to left. Means would come all the way around to score on a wild pitch to cap off the inning. Â
Â
Senior outfielder
Roby Enriquez sent his second home run of the season over the wall in right field in the eighth inning to ice the game.
Â
Whitbread improved to 3-0 on the year after going seven complete innings and allowing just three base hits while striking out seven. Ridgway tossed the eighth and ninth innings and struck out a pair while allowing just one hit to the Bulldogs.
