ST. LOUIS – Indiana State redshirt senior guard Tamara Lee was recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference for her success both on and off the court Tuesday as she received honorable mention honors on the league's Scholar-Athlete Team.
 
As a Sycamore this year, Lee is averaging 11.9 points per game and shooting 36.8 percent from the field overall. She ranks fifth in the league with an average of 2.0 3-point field goals per game and her 37.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc is fourth in the league and currently places her ninth all-time at Indiana State for a career.
 
The criteria for the scholar-athlete team balloting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for the Google Cloud Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, have played at least 75 percent of a team's games and must carry at least a 3.20 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).

Student-athletes must also have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true and redshirt freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution.

A total of 42 Valley student-athletes met the nomination criteria for scholar-athlete honors in 2019.
 
Indiana State returns to the hardwood on Thursday, March 14 when the eighth-seeded Sycamores face No. 9 Valparaiso at Hoops in the Heartland, the MVC Tournament, in Moline, Illinois.
