TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Another great challenge awaits the Sycamore Softball program this weekend as they return to the Bluegrass State to compete at the Cardinal Classic in Louisville.
Â
For Indiana State (7-3), the tournament will invoke memories of the Sycamores last postseason run as two of the opponents ISU will face – Louisville (7-6) and Missouri (9-5) – faced Indiana State in the 2015 Columbia (Mo.) Regional.
Â
The two games against Louisville on Friday (10:30 a.m.) and Saturday (10:30 a.m.) will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra on the Watch ESPN app.

Series History
- IUPUI: Indiana State leads the all-time series, 27-10, and the Sycamores have won two in a row. The two teams last met in 2017 as weather prevented any meeting last season.
- Louisville: Louisville owns a 5-2 advantage in an all-time series that has shown that seven innings just isn't enough. Three of the seven contests have gone to extra innings including the most recent meeting, an 8-6 Sycamore win in eight innings in 2017.
- Missouri: Mizzou holds a 17-3 advantage in the series and won the most recent contest, a 7-2 decision in the 2015 Regionals in Columbia.
Three Things to Know
- Senior Success
Beware the Sycamore Seniors. Early on this year the trio of players that make up the Senior Class are showing their experience. Combined they are hitting .400 (38-for-95) with 19 runs scored, 27 RBI and 12 extra base hits. That senior leadership was very evident against Western Kentucky in the Hilltopper Classic (Feb. 24-25) in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The trio of seniors of Shaye Barton, Brooke Mann and Bailey Martin combined for 10 of Indiana State's 15 hits, all five of the team's RBI and three of the seven runs. In all the senior trio was 10-for-13 (.769) at the plate.
- Schnaiter Gets Valley Newcomer Honors in the Middle of Back-to-Back Shutouts
Gabbi Schnaiter recorded a pair of back-to-back complete game shutouts last Sunday and Monday at the Hilltopper Classic and gained some hardware in the middle of it. During her second shutout, a 5-0 win over Butler on Monday, the Missouri Valley Conference announced she was named the league's Newcomer of the Week following her near perfect performance against Cleveland State. She went the distance against the Vikings, holding them to just one hit and no walks with eight strikeouts.
- Off to a Fast Start
If you didn't see this coming then perhaps you are emulating an ostrich. Indiana State jumped out to a fast start in its first two weekends of play, entering this week ranked 11th nationally and first in the Missouri Valley Conference with an average of 2.60 stolen bases per game. Credit that fast start to a quartet of Trees that are far from stationary. Leslie Sims ranks 13th in the nation with an average of 0.9 stolen base per game while Bailey Martin ranks 73rd nationally with an average of 0.50 stolen bases per game. Not only that, Indiana State already has nine players with a stolen base this year with five already swiping multiple bases.
