TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Good things come to those who wait. Hopefully that old adage holds true as the Sycamore Softball program finally heads to the Hilltopper Classic this weekend.
Â
The delayed start to the tournament, originally scheduled for Friday, will finally get underway on Sunday with a slightly altered schedule. The revamped schedule will see Indiana State play four games against the three opponents – Butler, Cleveland State and Western Kentucky – with the Sycamores facing Butler twice.
Â
Indiana State opens action in Bowling Green against Butler on Sunday at 11 a.m. ET (10 a.m. CT).
Â
Series History
- Butler: Indiana State holds a 27-18 lead in the all-time series and has won three of the last four meetings.
- Cleveland State: The two teams have only met three times before this weekend's games with Cleveland State owning a 2-1 advantage.
- Western Kentucky: The Hilltoppers hold an 8-1 advantage in the all-time series with ISU's lone win coming in 2007 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Three Things to Know
- Thieving Trees
Indiana State enters this weekend's play ranked 11th in the nation in stolen bases. Early on this season the Sycamores are averaging 2.83 stolen bases per game, a mark that leads the Valley.
- T(h)ree-Bagger
The triples are coming in hot for the Trees early on this season. Entering this weekend's play, the Sycamores rank fifth in the nation with 0.67 triples per game thanks in large part to the pair of triples that Bella Peterson has accumulated this year, ranking seventh in the nation and leading the Valley.
- Streaking Sims
Leslie Sims is fast. We cannot stress this enough. But if you still don't believe us, at least find trust in the numbers. The junior enters this week's action having played in 91 consecutive games without being thrown out on a stolen base attempt (and trust us, we're knocking on all sorts of wood as we write this). That includes a 26-for-26 performance on the base paths in 2018. The streak for Sims dates back to March 15, 2017 when she was caught stealing against Monmouth in a tournament down in Tampa, Florida.
