Powerful Fifth Inning Propels Sycamores over Toledo

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Bailey Martin had two hits, two runs and two RBIs and Gabbi Schnaiter recorded her first win as a Sycamore after fanning six over 6 1/3 innings as Indiana State used a four-run fifth inning to propel themselves to a 5-1 win over Toledo in the Chattanooga Challenge Saturday.

The Sycamores (4-1) entered the fifth inning trailing 1-0 before scoring four runs on four hits in the frame. That vaulted the team to a 4-1 lead, a margin ISU would not relinquish. Yet the damage could have even been more impressive as Indiana State left the bases loaded in the at inning. For Indiana State, three of their eight hits went for extra bases including Bella Peterson's second triple in as many games.

Toledo (3-5) would only get one runner into scoring position and not be able to move her past second base. Credit the impressive pitching by Schnaiter (1-0), who received her first decision since the junior transfer joined the program. Schnaiter allowed just one run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings while striking out six and walking three. She threw 123 pitches, 72 of which were for strikes.

Kailey Minarchick (0-3) received the loss after allowing four runs on five hits and did not strike out a Sycamore. Heather Webb relieved Minarchick after 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out two.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Gabbi Schnaiter gets the nod for her yeoman's work in the circle. Schnaiter struck out six, walked only three and allowed just one run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings on the rubber, throwing 123 pitches while facing 27 batters.

STAT OF THE GAME
Alexis McCullough stole a base making her the seventh different Sycamore to swipe a base so far this season.
