Sycamores Open with Win in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Bailey Martin was 2-for-4 and drove in three of Indiana State's four runs as the Sycamores used a big second inning to edge Dayton, 4-3, at the Chattanooga Challenge Friday afternoon.

Martin propelled the Sycamores (3-0) with her explosive offensive performance, using her second multi-hit game in three days to drive in a majority of Indiana State's runs. Dayton (3-4) dropped their second game of the Chattanooga Challenge, falling to Tennessee Tech earlier in the day, after giving up three runs in the second inning.

The big second inning came about as Brooke Mann doubled to right center with Rebecca Gibbs on first. Three batters later, Martin drove in a pair of runs with a double to left giving the Trees a 4-1 lead. This came after Martin's RBI triple in the first inning opened up the scoring for both teams.

Dayton fought back in the bottom half of the inning manufacturing two runs on two hits but would not get a runner past second after that point for the remainder of the game.

Arielle Blankenship (2-0) registered her second win of the year after entering in relief in the second inning while Abbey Kruzel (1), who retired all three batters she faced in the seventh, was credited with the save in her first appearance on the season. Jessica Weaver (1-1) was charged with the loss for Dayton following her complete game performance.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
With her offensive heroics, Bailey Martin claims this honor. She smacked her third career triple of her career to drive in the game's first run and open an offensive first two innings. Then in the second frame her double sent two more runs across the plate.

STAT OF THE GAME
Following the second inning, Indiana State would allow Dayton to only put two runners into scoring position for the remainder of the game. Neither made it past second base.
