INDIANA STATE NOTES

NOTES
  • At the Starting Line: Indiana State will open the 2020 indoor season this Saturday when they host the ISU Early Bird Meet at the Indoor Track & Field Facility. The meet is slated to begin at 12 p.m. ET and live results can be found at TimingMD.net. The Sycamores will be joined by Chicago State and Marian University in the double-dual meet.
  • Enter Year Two: The Sycamore men boast a strong returning sophomore class after immediately making an impact for the blue and white last year. Among the returnees, JaVaughn Moore was named the MVC Indoor Freshman of the Year after placing second in the 60-meter dash and seventh in the 200-meter dash. Matthew Lewis-Banks also earned All-MVC honors during the indoor meet, taking second in the 60-meter hurdles and Callan Whitehouse is fresh off of a runner-up performance in the pole vault at the MVC Outdoor Championships.
  • Continuing Improvement: ISU's women's distance squad enters the indoor season after posting their best cross country finish (3rd) in the Valley since 2003. Senoir Alli Workman will look lead the distance runners and will be helped by the depth that Jocelyn Quiles, Tara Cassidy and Michaela Ward bring to the table.
  • MVC Preseason Polls: The Illinois State women were picked atop the Missouri Valley Conference once again after sweeping the indoor and outdoor championships last season. The Redbirds locked-up all 10 first-place votes en route to a unanimous 100 total. Indiana State and Southern Illinois were tied for second in the poll, both earning 83 votes. On the men's side, Illinois State was picked to finish first, but by a much smaller margin, earning 76 votes and five first-place votes. UNI earned four first-place votes and 74 total votes for second while the Sycamore men were chosen third with 64 points.
  • Young Teams, Big Roles: Both Sycamore track & field teams boast young rosters. The Sycamore women welcome 17 newcomers to their squad to go along with a total of 32 underclassmen. The Sycamore men, while young last year, remain young with 19 newcomers and 40 total underclassmen. Despite the youth, both teams have high expectations as the women were picked to finish second in the Valley and the men third.
  • Indoor Track at Home: Indiana State track & field will have the luxury of hosting home meets for just the second season after debuting the new Indoor Track & Field Facility during the 2018-19 season. This season, the Sycamores will host the ISU Early Bird on Dec. 7 before returning home to host the John Gartland Invitational on Jan. 25.
