ST. LOUIS – Sycamore Football placed two student-athletes on the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team, the League announced Tuesday. The All-Newcomer teams are voted on by MVFC coaches, sports information directors and members of the media.
Both Sycamore honorees proved to be impact players during their final season of collegiate football as graduate transfers. On the heels of a Second Team All-MVFC honor Monday,
Dominique Dafney earned All-Newcomer honors on the offensive side of the ball while shutdown cornerback
Keawvis Cummings earned All-Newcomer defensive accolades.
DEFENSE
#3 DB Keawvis Cummings, 6-0, 175, R-Sr., Tupelo (Miss.) Shannon HS/Austin Peay
A one-year starter at defensive back … Started every game after transferring from Austin Peay … Led the Sycamores and ranked seventh in the MVFC with 11 pass breakups … Had two interceptions on the season - one at South Dakota and another against South Dakota State … Did not allow a receiving touchdown on the season … Ranks fifth in the MVFC in passes defended … Ranks 26th nationally with 1.2 passes defended per game.
OFFENSE
#89 FB/WR Dominique Dafney, 6-3, 235, R-Sr., West Des Moines (Iowa) Valley HS/Iowa
Ranked second on the team with 439 yards rushing after carrying the ball during the final four games of the season … Accounted for seven total touchdowns to lead Indiana State … Rushed for six touchdowns and caught one touchdown … Recorded the fourth-best individual rushing performance in program history after a 244-yard outburst that included five total touchdowns at Missouri State … Had a season high five catches for 83 yards against South Dakota … Had 15 catches for 196 yards … Recorded 635 all-purposes yards on the season.
