Adrian Folks Leads Sycamores with Double-Double in Loss to Southeast Missouri

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Adrian Folks recorded her first career double-double against Southeast Missouri State on Saturday afternoon, but strong offense from SEMO was too much to overcome as the Sycamores fell, 68-58.

Indiana State moves to 2-9 on the year after the defeat while SEMO improves to 7-3.

Folks, the Southgate, Mich. native, had her best performance in a Sycamore uniform, ending the day with her first double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. Fellow freshman Caitlin Anderson also had a career day for the Trees, tallying 13 points to lead the ISU scoring effort to go along with four rebounds.

Despite Folks' effort on the glass, SEMO held a 50-41 advantage on the boards, but Indiana State managed to clog the passing lanes well during the matchup, recording nine steals to the Redhawks' six.

ISU struggled from the field against the Redhawks, shooting just 32% overall and 12% from deep, while SEMO connected on 37.9% of their shots and 40% from behind the arc.

A sign of encouragement for the blue and white on Saturday came from the bench production, as the Indiana State bench put up 30 points while Southeast Missouri's bench ended the afternoon with 24. Both Folks and Anderson came off of the bench for the Trees.

Southeast Missouri opened up a 24-point lead, their biggest of the night, with 6:14 remaining in the game. The Sycamores did not give up, however, finishing the game on a 15-3 run that included two and-one opportunities for Anderson with one-minute remaining and closing the final gap to just 10.

The Redhawks opened the afternoon on a 10-0 run which was ended by Folks converting a tough lay-in. ISU's offense started to warmup towards the end of the frame, however, with Anderson making her first entrance with 57 seconds remaining and immediately converting a layup off of a beautiful dime by Jasmine Elder. The Sycamores would trail 18-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Period two was a consistent back-and-forth battle between both teams, with neither team finding a way to put together a run. A Sommer Pitzer floater would pull the Trees within seven, 29-22, with 2:51 remaining, but the Redhawks owned an eight-point advantage at the break.

Similar to the opening quarter, SEMO began the second half on a 9-1 run to open up a 42-26 lead with 6:33 remaining. Folks used an and-one to put an end to the run, but SEMO would again answer with another 9-1 run to make it 51-31. Del'Janae Williams managed to convert on a triple and Pitzer knocked down two free throws to make it 53-36 in favor of SEMO at the end of the third.

Indiana State now has nine days off for winter break before coming back to the Hulman Center to host St. Louis on Dec. 30 at 5 p.m. ET.
