TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State will host league-leading Drake at Hulman Center Friday night when this weekend's Missouri Valley Conference action tips off in the Wabash Valley.
The game, which tips off at 7 p.m. ET, will be broadcast live on The Valley on ESPN (ESPN3) with R.C. McBride and Brenda VanLengen calling the action while Andrew Kappes will have the call on the Sycamore Radio Network.
Series History
- This will be the 81st meeting between the two schools.
- The two teams have actually split the last six meetings in Terre Haute and the all-time series when played in the Wabash Valley has the Sycamores trailing by only three games, 20-17.
- Drake enters Terre Haute with a four-game winning streak in the series.
- Strong defense is the key - four out of the last five Sycamore wins in the series have seen Drake held to under 60 points.
Five Things to Know
- Home, Sweet, Home
Indiana State returns to Hulman Center after a pair of hotly-contested road Valley games last week. The Sycamores return to the Wabash Valley with a 3-2 mark at home, winning three of their last four home contests.
- Speaking of Close Contests
The Sycamores seem to be relaxed in close games and have posted a 6-2 mark this season in games decided by 10 points or less. That includes a 2-0 mark when going to overtime this season.
- Stop the Streak
When Drake visits the Wabash Valley on Friday, Indiana State will be looking to snap Drake's 45-game MVC winning streak. The Bulldogs second-to-last loss before the streak came inside Hulman Center in a 68-53 win over Drake on Feb. 14, 2016.
- Trees with a High Rate of Steals
More than just total or per game numbers, Indiana State's thievery comes at a steady clip. Opponents are seeing 13.6 percent of their possessions end in a steal by the Sycamores, a rate that ranks 45th nationally and first in the Valley.
- Turnovers the Norm
Indiana State opponents must be maddened when facing the Sycamores as ISU opponents turnover the ball on 25.5 percent of their possessions. That turnover rate for opponents ranks eighth in the nation while the average of 21.41 turnovers per game Sycamore opponents are averaging ranks 19th nationally. Both marks lead The Valley.
