TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State head football coach
Curt Mallory announced the addition of two assistant coaches to his staff Wednesday, Jan. 23.
Aaron Young has been named ISU's quarterbacks coach and
Kyle Hoke has been named safeties coach for the Sycamores.
Â
"I'm really excited to have both Aaron and Kyle on staff. Both are young and eager to hit the ground running," Mallory said. "I know they will not only be able to teach, lead and recruit our student-athletes at the highest level, but they will also be outstanding representatives of our program and Indiana State University."
Â
Young enters a full-time role at ISU after spending two years at Indiana State as a player and a graduate assistant working with the quarterbacks.
Â
In his graduate role during the 2018 season, Young was the main communications link on the sideline between the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks while assisting in the pass game offense with the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.
Â
The Sacramento, California native also handled day-to-day development of the quarterbacks working with the group throughout practices and gameday developing drills, warmups and stretches.
Â
Young is a graduate of Wyoming with a degree in psychology while earning his master's in physical education with a concentration on coaching from Indiana State.
Â
Hoke makes his way to Terre Haute after spending the 2018 season as the safeties coach at Texas State. Prior to his time at TXST, he served as the defensive coordinator at John Carrol University.
Â
While at John Carroll, his defensive unit ranked second in the Ohio Athletic Conference in scoring defense and produced the league's most outstanding linebacker in Mason McKenrick. He went to John Carroll after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at South Carolina, where he worked primarily with linebackers and was responsible for the running position and defensive breakdowns.
Â
In 2014, Hoke was the defensive quality control coach at the United States Military Academy, and worked primarily with defensive backs. He also worked with the defensive backs and special teams at Western Michigan when he was a graduate assistant coach in 2012 and 2013.
Â
The Sugarland, Texas native began his coaching career after he played safety for four years and earned a bachelor's degree at Ball State in 2012. He played in all 14 games when the Cardinals won the 2008 MAC championship game, played in the GMAC Bowl and ranked No. 22 in the final Associated Press poll.
Â
He comes from a football coaching family as his father, Jon, is the secondary coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and his uncle, Brady, is the defensive line coach with the Carolina Panthers, and former head coach at Michigan, San Diego State and Ball State.
