BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Indiana State junior
Sierra Hargens paced the Sycamores lineup on the opening day of the 2018 fall campaign. The Sycamores played their first round of the season at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational hosted by Youngstown State at the Mill Creek Park Golf Course, a par-72, 5,957 yard layout.
Hargens led the way by recording a round of 73 and is tied for 7th place. Katlyn Shutt fired a round of 68 (four under par) and leads the event while Hargens will be five shots off the lead heading into the final round.
Abigail Irwin enjoyed a solid round as she recorded a score of 79 which is tied for 24th place. That ties her career-best of 79 which came in last year's first round of the MVC Fall Preview. Senior
Thilda Staubo posted a score of 80 which tied her for 26th place overall. Freshman
Lauren Green recorded a score of 83 which tied her for 36th place place. Senior
Sophie Benetti recorded a round of 87 which puts her in 46th place.
Two Sycamores played as individuals as
Madison Branum carded a score of 76 which tied her for 16th place while
Kayla Ryan's score of 80 puts her in a tie for 26th place.
Indiana State finished the first round in fourth place overall with a score of 315. Host Youngstown State leads the way with a score of 286 while defending champion Marshall is in second at 294. Cleveland State is third with a round of 301 with the Sycamores -- the 2016 event champions -- in fourth at 315. Behind Indiana State is Purdue Fort Wayne in fifth at 320 while Niagara and St. Francis are tied for sixth at 321.
The second and final round of the tournament is set for Tuesday, September 4 with a shotgun start that begins at 9 a.m. (ET).
