The Indiana State women's soccer team, under the direction of third-year head coach
Julie Hanley heads to Purdue on Wednesday, August 8 for its lone exhibition contest against the Boilermakers. The friendly match is set for a 7 pm (ET) kickoff from Folk Field in West Lafayette, Ind. Purdue's radio crew will have the call
here.
The Sycamores have been in training camp for exactly seven days after opening with a fitness test and "11v11" workout on the opening morning training session one week ago. At the time, coach Hanley commented on how pleased she was with her student-athletes off season training regimen.Â
"I told the group that this year we had the most athletes pass the fitness test of any season that I have been here," coach Hanley said. "It is a testament to the work that the team put in over the summer. For us as a staff, we are very excited to get going especially after seeing the work that the team has put in to get ready."
For Indiana State, this road exhibition contest begins a stretch of nine consecutive games away from Memorial Stadium. In fact, the Sycamores will play their first eight regular season matches away from home before the opener on September 9 at 3 pm (ET) against Rose-Hulman.
ISU welcomes back a strong nucleus of returnees, including seniorÂ
Caitlyn Eddy who led the team with six assists last year and logged over 1,300 minutes of action after transferring into the program from Arkansas-Little Rock. SeniorÂ
Katie Wells is back for her senior campaign after scoring six goals last season to pace the Sycamores and was a Second Team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection as well as a MVC Scholar-Athlete Team pick. Wells enters her senior campaign with a Top 10 ranking in the Indiana State career record book for points scored (36), points per game (0.69) and goals scored (12).
"We are going to be really good offensively," coach Hanley commented. "We added a couple of attackers that will have the ability to get in behind. We are going to compete really well. This is a good group of athletes who believe in our culture which is geared towards competition and it just gets better everyday."
Purdue is coming off a 10-7-2 season in 2017, including a 5-4-2 mark in the Big Ten Conference. They reached 10 wins for the first time since 2009.
Indiana State's regular season will open on Friday, August 17 when they travel to Northern Kentucky for a 7 pm (ET) matchup.
