ST. LOUIS -- In an announcement today (Aug. 13) from the league office, senior forward
Katie Wells has been named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Team. The preseason all-conference team and team predictions were voted upon by the league head coaches.
The Indianapolis (Warren Central HS) native currently ranks eighth best in school history with 36 career points scored and third all-time with 0.69 points scored per match. Her 12 career goals are tied for the eighth-best mark in school history. She scored two goals each against Chicago State and Purdue-Fort Wayne last season while leading the team in goals (6) and points (14) while also notching two assists. Wells earned Second Team All-MVC honors while also being named to the 2017 Scholar Athlete team.
As a sophomore, Wells took a total of 15 shots with 10 on goal earning an impressive .667 shots on goal percentage. She led the team in points with 19 overall and tallied a total of five goals and three assists on the year. Wells posted an impressive performance against Drake with one goal and one assist in a key come from behind win. She earned First Team All-MVC and was named to the 2016 Scholar Athlete team.
The Sycamores were picked to finish eighth in the MVC Preseason Poll. Loyola, with five first place votes was picked to win while Missouri State is second and Northern Iowa third. Drake, Illinois State, Valparaiso, Evansville and the Sycamores round out the poll.
Indiana State will open the 2018 season at Northern Kentucky on Friday, August 17 at 7 pm (ET).Â
