Jerry Nunez was named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference Preseason Second Team by the League office Tuesday. He is the lone Sycamore on the offensive side of the ball to earn a preseason honor. The MVFC will announce its defensive preseason teams Wednesday, August 1 at 11 a.m. ET.
The Naples, Florida native saw the field in 10 games for the Sycamores in 2017. He went 9-of-14 on field goals and 15-of-17 on PAT attempts. Nunez hit two field goals in the season opener against Eastern Illinois. Nunez also had two field goals at Liberty and at South Dakota. Nunez hit a career long field goal of 48 yards in the season finale at Northern Iowa.
Nunez earned Second Team All-MVFC and was named to the All-Newcomer team following a superb 2016 campaign. He hit 15-of-18 field goals and 29-of-31 PAT's, finishing the year ninth in field goals made per game (1.36), FG made and 11th in FG percentage. Nunez was 7-of-8 from 40-plus yards and 4-of-4 from 30-39 yards out.
The Sycamores begin the 2018 season under the lights August 30th when Quincy makes its way to Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
