Sycamore men and women, eight student-athletes earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors

NEW ORLEANS - The Indiana State men's and women's track and field teams, along with eight student-athletes, have been honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as part of their All-Academic teams.

The men's team was one of 141 men's programs to earn the honor, while the women's squad was one of 220 women's programs. In total, 361 Division I programs earned the honor.
In order to be eligible as a team, teams must have finished the season with a 3.0 cumulative team GPA. The Sycamore men finished the 2017-2018 season with a 3.11 cumulative GPA, while the women finished with a 3.34.

Eight Sycamore student-athletes also earned All-Academic honors as well. A total of 1,498 individual student-athletes were honored - 874 women from 198 different schools and 624 men from 163 different schools. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and completed at least one of the following two accomplishments during the 2017 season: either finish the indoor season ranked in the top-96 in an individual event (or top-48 in a relay event); or, compete at any round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships (including the East and West preliminary rounds).

Three Sycamore men and five women were honored: Akis Medrano (3.25, Criminology and Criminal Justice), Jaime Murtagh (3.67, Psychology) and Tristan Parmley (3.66, Physical Education Exercise Science) for the men, and Ayanna Morgan (3.35, Management), Brittany Neeley (3.47, Health Sciences-Public Health), Jasmine Noel (3.63, Political Science-Legal Studies), Erin Reese (3.48, Psychology) and Cassaundra Roper (3.40, Communication) for the women.

Indiana State has an impressive history with the All-Academic Team. Since its inception in 2007, only a handful have been chosen as indoor or outdoor Scholar-Athletes of the Year – one of those being world-class pole vaulter and former Sycamore Kylie Hutson, who won the female field edition of the award indoors in both 2009 and 2010.
