TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State head coach
Greg Lansing announced today (June 4) that Allante Holston has elected to transfer into the Sycamore Basketball program. Holston is a graduate transfer under NCAA rules and will be eligible immediately for the entire 2018-19 season.
Â
"To be able to add Allante Holston right now is huge," head coachÂ
Greg Lansing said. "We feel like he is the missing piece considering all the experience that we have coming back. He gives us the versatility that we need especially in our conference. It's great for Allante too. He is looking for more freedom and the chance to play now. Allante comes from a great program in North Texas who we battled into overtime against last year on the road. We are really excited and fortunate to sign him at this time. I have to giveÂ
Terry Parker a lot of credit, he worked hard to identify exactly the best fit and put in a lot of time to get it done."
Holston has spent the last three seasons as guard for North Texas. He is a 6-7, 190 guard who hails from Capitol Heights, Md., and is a graduate of Clinton Christian School. Last season at UNT, he played in 37 of 38 games, making 15 starts. He scored 116 points and pulled down 109 rebounds while shooting 44.4 percent (44-of-99) from the field. He scored four points against San Francisco in the College Basketball Invitational Championship game. Holston reached double figures scoring three times, including a season-high 13 points to go with seven rebounds against Rice. He did play against Indiana State when the Sycamores visited Denton last season.
Â
In 2016-17, Holston scored a season-best 12 points, including three dunks against Delaware State and posted a career-best four steals against UT-Arlington. His career best of 10 rebounds came during that season against Texas College. Holston scored 117 points in 31 games played during his initial season at North Texas as he finished his freshman campaign with 16 points and seven blocked shots. He scored a career-best 17 points to go with seven rebounds against Troy, making 9-of-10 free throws. He reached double figures scoring with 12 points against Southern Illinois and again with 10 points versus Mississippi Valley State.
Â
He averaged 16 points, five and seven assists per game in one season playing for West Oaks Prep School. He was ranked as the 5
th-best recruit in the Washington area by ESPN and was ranked as the No. 5 player in the state of Maryland by Scout.com. A first-team all-defense selection following his senior year at Clinton Christian School, he helped the team to a 22-9 record and a berth into the Maryland private school championship game. Holston scored 16 points in that championship contest.
Â
Holston joins a talented crop of newcomers for 2018-19 which includes transfers
Christian Williams and
Cooper Neese who will be eligible to compete following the fall semester. Blake Brinkmeyer of West Des Moines, Iowa and Terre Haute's De'Avion Washington are incoming freshman. Washington is a member of the 2018 Indiana All Stars and recently captured the McMillian Award. Cam Bacote also joins the Sycamores, but will sit out this upcoming season due to the NCAA Transfer Rule. Holston is the second Sycamore to take advantage of the NCAA Graduate Transfer Rule as
Qiydar Davis played last season for Indiana State following a four-year career at Louisiana Tech and was immediately eligible upon arrival.
