TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State swimming and diving has earned the Scholar All-American Award for the third consecutive semester, the College Swim Coaches Association of America announced Tuesday.
Â
The Sycamores earned the CSCAA Scholar All-American Award for the fourth time in program history for their academic success in the spring 2018 semester. The award recognizes those programs that earned and maintained a 3.0 grade point average or higher. The CSCAA award is given twice a year following each academic semester.
Â
In addition to receiving the award for the third semester in a row, the Sycamores also earned the highest GPA in the Missouri Valley Conference, finishing with a 3.61. ISU's 3.61 led Missouri State (3.60), Southern Illinois (3.56), UNI (3.53), Evansville (3.51), Illinois State (3.48) and Little Rock (3.46).
Â
"As our program develops we always talk about family first, academics second and swimming third," head coach
Matt Leach said. "All three are at a high level and it shows how our young program and the young women work hard in the classroom and hold academics in high regard. It's great to be at the top of the MVC and we will continue to push for better marks in the classroom and in the pool. I couldn't be happier with how this season progressed and we look forward to building on this and taking the next step as a program."
Â
Following the MVC meet in February six Sycamores earned MVC Scholar-Athlete honors by maintaining a GPA between a 3.5 and 4.0. Those student-athletes were
Cierra Campbell,
