ST. LOUIS - Indiana State track & field has finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference Program of the Year standings, the Valley announced Wednesday morning.
Â
Scoring is based on the team's finish at each Missouri Valley Conference Championship in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points … 10th = 10 points) with the lowest total score for all six championships (3 men's and 3 women's) combined determining the award winner.
Â
The Sycamores finished with a total of 15.5 points, just one and a half away from Illinois State who was named the Program of the Year with 14 points. ISU finished in front of UNI (21), Southern Illinois (26) and Bradley (29). Specifically, the men finished with seven points, just one shy of the Redbird men and the women earned eight points, falling by only a half a point to Illinois State.
Â
It was a successful year for Indiana State cross country and track and field. The Sycamores were runners-up in men's cross country, men's and women's indoor track & field, and the women shared the second spot in outdoor track & field with the men finishing in third.
