DALLAS -- Indiana State baseball fell to top-seed and No. 24-ranked Missouri State, 4-2, on day two of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship at Horner Ballpark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Missouri State (37-15) used a solo home run from Brooks Zimmerman in the second inning to claim a 1-0 lead. MSU starting pitcher Ty Buckner then retired seven-straight Sycamores up until the fourth inning when
Dane Giesler reached on a hit-by-pitch,
Romero Harris reached on a walk and
Jarrod Watkins loaded the bases on a fielder's choice.
The tying run crossed the plate, but it cost the Sycamores (30-23) two outs as MSU turned a double play on a groundout.
Luke Fegen collected one of his two base hits with a double to the outfield to score Enriquez and give Indiana State the lead, 2-1.
Missouri State tied the game on a ground ball single in the seventh on a high chopper to first base before scoring two runs in the eighth inning and holding on for the win. The double from Zimmerman came with two outs after
Tristan Weaver had retired nine-straight Bears.
Jake Fromson (3-2) earned the win in relief while Connor Sechler picked up his eighth save after collecting the final three outs after the Sycamores put two runners on in the ninth on back-to-back singles.
