Sycamores Take Series Finale Against Austin Peay, 11-5

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Indiana State was one hit shy of matching its season high in the category in an 11-5 series finale victory over Austin Peay Sunday afternoon at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Jake Means blasted his first two home runs of the season in a 2-for-5 outing while Clay Dungan went for a career high five base hits in the game, finishing 5-of-6 with three RBI and three runs scored. Five other Sycamores (6-5) finished with multiple hits in the contest while Roberto Enriquez, Jake Means and Max Wright each drove in a pair of runs.

Trailing the Governors (8-3) after the first inning 1-0, Max Wright put the Sycamores on top with a two-run home run to right field, scoring Dane Tofteland who was hit by a pitch to open the inning. Means followed Wright with his first homer of the day on a shot to left-center to make it 3-1 in favor of the Sycamores.

Austin Peay scored three in the fourth to tie the ballgame before Indiana State went back on top for good on Enriquez' sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The Sycamores added insurance in the sixth, scoring five runs to go out to a 10-4 lead. Means got things started with a one-out solo shot to left field. Jarrod Watkins doubled and Luke Fegen reached on an error before Dane Giesler drove in a run on a single to the gap in right.

Dungan doubled to right-center driving in a pair before Enriquez doubled home Dungan to cap off the inning. The rest was academic.

Right-hander Donnie Ames picked up his first career win in relief, going an inning and two-thirds, allowing two hits. Ethan Larrison went four innings out of the bullpen en route to his second save of the season. Larrison allowed four hits and struck out three in his outing.

Tyler Whitbread toed the rubber for the Sycamores for the third time this season. The right-hander went three and a third innings, striking out a career high six batters and allowing four runs in the no decision.

The Sycamores will open their home slate next weekend with a three-game series with Western Illinois Saturday-Monday with each game set to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
