TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State dropped its first Missouri Valley Conference game of the season Friday in a 4-0 decision to Drake in the first game of a doubleheader at Price Field.
Drake's Nicole Newman (9-2) shut down the Sycamore offense by only allowing one hit and issuing one walk while striking out 15 batters.
Shaye Barton managed the lone hit of the game for the Sycamores (15-11, 3-1).
Kylie Stober (3-5) pitched a complete game and fanned five Drake batters.
Drake (20-9, 4-0) jumped out to an early lead as Macy Johnson hit an RBI double down the left field line. A Kailee Smith solo home run to left center in the fourth made it 2-0 before a two-run single to left center by Tasha Alexander added two more runs in the sixth for Drake.
