MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Indiana State scored nine runs on 11 hits and took advantage of four Mississippi Valley State errors as the Sycamores coasted to a 9-1 (6 inn.) win Saturday afternoon.
The Sycamores (11-7) were slow to get the bats going and even trailed the Devilettes, 1-0, entering the third inning. But the offense started gaining traction off a season-high four stolen bases, a
Bella Peterson home run in her second consecutive day and timely hitting.
Peterson tied the game in the third with a sacrifice fly then added the Sycamores the lead in the fifth with a solo shot down the right field line. In between,
Leslie Sims gave the Trees the lead with a two-run single in the fourth.
Kylie Stober (2-3) went the distance for Indiana State in the run-rule final, allowing only one run on five hits. She fanned six batters and did not issue a walk in the game.
Peterson finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk while
Amanda Guercio was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Amanda Guercio gets the nod with her game-high three hits and a run scored. She was one of three Sycamores to drive in multiple runs in the game.
STAT OF THE GAME
There are many numbers to consider in this game but one of the more striking stats is that Indiana State was 5-for-10 at the plate when facing two outs while Mississippi Valley State was just 1-for-7 in the same scenario.
