NASHVILLE – Eighteen Sycamores saw the field Friday night in Nashville to open the SAF Dirt Classic. Indiana State dominated from the start, jumping out to a lead in the opening inning and never looked back en route to a 17-3 win over Lipscomb.
Romero Harris and
Dane Tofteland led the way at the plate for the Sycamores (3-2). Harris hit his second (3-run) and third home runs of the season and drove in four runs while Tofteland smashed a three-run homer while also driving in two on a double. In total 11 Sycamores recorded base his in the contest as ISU scored 13 runs after the fourth inning of play.
Tofteland drove in the first run of the game in the opening frame on a sac bunt before blasting a three-run home run in the third to make it 4-0. Tofteland finished the game with six RBIs.
CJ Huntley,
Dane Giesler,
Roberto Enriquez and
Jake Means also added RBIs for the Sycamores and
Brandt Nowaskie collected the team's second triple of the season during a pinch-hit at bat in the eighth.
Tristan Weaver (1-0) picked up his first win of the season with a five inning start, allowing just four hits and two earned runs. In total, the southpaw struck out three batters he faced.

Tyler Whitbread and
Brian Eddy finished out the game on the mound for the Sycamores, combining to allow just two base hits and no runs in the final four innings of play. Ridgway struck out three in two innings of work and Eddy struck out two in the ninth.
The Sycamores drew 14 walks in the game to go along with their 15 hits. Huntley drew three walks on his own, scoring twice on those base running opportunities. The Indiana State pitching staff allowed just five hits and three runs in the game.
Joshua Colon (1-1) was charged for the loss as Lipscomb fell to 2-3 on the season.
Indiana State continues the SAF Dirt Classic Saturday with a road matchup at Middle Tennessee. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
