TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State's 2018-19 season and the
Vicki Hall era will begin Wednesday evening when the Sycamores will begin a new season at Marshall.
The game, which will be broadcast on C-USA.TV and the Sycamore Radio Network, tips off at 6 p.m. ET at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, West Virginia.
Series History
- This will be the fifth meeting between Indiana State and Marshall on the hardwood with the Sycamores holding a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series. The last meeting came in the 2013-14 season when ISU rallied back for a 68-67 win in Huntington.
- Indiana State claims a win in the only known meeting in Huntington. However, two results in the series come with locations unknown - a matchup in 1972-73 and then a game on March 6, 1980.
- ISU has won two straight in the series, claiming both wins in the home-and-home series that took place over the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.
Five Things to Know
- Wednesday marks Vicki Hall's debut as a head coach
The last two Indiana State head coaches have won their debut for the Sycamores, but that has been no guarantee of long-term success. First year head coaches are 3-4 in their debut game at Indiana State while only two coaches have posted .500 or better records in their inaugural season.
- No Home November
Wednesday's game marks the first of five consecutive games away from home to start the season for the Sycamores. ISU hasn't started a year with so many games away from home since the 1982-83 season.
- Sycamores in Season Openers
Indiana State is 26-20 all-time in season openers (.553 winning percentage) but has gone 7-3 (.700) in the season opener over the past 10 years.
- Rebuild vs. Rebuild
Wednesday's contest features two teams that are trying to rebuild their programs. Vicki Hall, in her first year, inherits a team that went 11-19 (9-9 Missouri Valley) last year but is projected to finish seventh in the league. Marshall went 9-20 (3-13 Conference USA) and failed to qualify for their conference tournament in Tony Kemper's first season last year.
- Welcome to the Family
The season opener for Indiana State on Wednesday will also mark the debut of five newcomers to the Sycamore program – four freshmen and one graduate transfer. Two of those newcomers, Lynn Tamis and Ana Valero Lopez, join the program from overseas while Tamara Lee, a graduate transfer, brings firsthand knowledge of the league with her after spending the previous three years at Wichita State (a former MVC member).
