TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - As Indiana State University officials prepare for its first Annual Day of Giving next spring, the Sycamore Athletic Fund is providing the drumroll this fall.
The Sycamore Athletic Fund is hosting a pilot Annual Day of Giving, "All In for Elevate," on Nov. 15. Former athletes, coaches and other donors will have 24 hours to show how much Indiana State means to them by making a financial contribution.
"I am grateful the university chose athletics to pilot the Day of Giving slated for March 2019. Not only do we want to raise the level of engagement and number of donors to Sycamore Athletics and be a great partner and contributor to Indiana State University, we also hope the momentum established and the lessons learned will boost the university's Day of Giving and make it a great success," said
Sherard Clinkscales, director of athletics.
"All In for Elevate" will start at midnight Nov. 14 and end at 11:59 p.m. Nov. 15. Gifts of any size go where the donor specifies. In addition to
sport-specific initiatives, the Sycamore Athletic Fund's priorities include:
• Sycamore Fuel Initiative: Because nutrition is an essential part of any training regimen, Indiana State Athletics seeks to provide student-athletes with balanced meals and proper nutrition before and after workouts which enhances their ability to perform in competition and in the classroom. Gifts to this fund provide additional balanced meals, pre- and post-workout nutrition and supplement the Fuel Station in the Sports Performance Center.
• Team Resource Development: Each head coach has identified projects that will assist in maximizing team performance through training and experiences — all in support of the development of top-caliber student-athletes.
"Indiana State is making a difference, and that impact can be even greater with the financial support of our alumni and friends," said Indiana State President Deborah J. Curtis. "I'm excited to see how much we can accomplish in 24 hours - this fall
and next spring."
Hosting an Annual Day of Giving is an exciting first for Indiana State, said Doug Smith, interim vice president for the Division of University Advancement/CEO of ISU Foundation.
"A Day of Giving is important to the university in many ways. It's an opportunity for the Sycamore family to come together to make a meaningful impact for current and future students," Smith said. "An investment in Indiana State helps transform the lives of students while also serving the state of Indiana and beyond."
The university-wide Annual Day of Giving is set for March 13.
"In my experience, it's best to start with a pilot on a smaller scale to learn from it before embarking on the larger effort," Smith said. "We're excited about what we're going to learn from the athletics initiative, which will help us get ready for the university-wide Day of Giving in the spring."
During the Day of Giving, donors support their favorite program or project and initiate gift match challenges to their fellow alumni creating good-natured peer pressure among constituents. "A donor says, 'I want to give because my friend gave or my teammates gave,'" Smith said.
