SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Indiana State volleyball fell for the first time in Missouri Valley Conference action Friday night to a red-hot Missouri State team in three sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-10) inside Hammonds Student Center.
Indiana State (4-11, 2-1 MVC) battled with the Bears in each of the first two sets but Missouri State was too much to handle.
With ISU leading 5-3 in the first set, Missouri State went on an 11-4 run to regain momentum. The Sycamores would make a run of their own later to close the gap to 16-13 but a MSU timeout would stop ISU in its tracks as the Bears would go on a 9-1 run to close out the set.
The Sycamores would crank up the intensity in the second set, picking up six of their seven blocks led by
Alex Toombs and
Nikkie White. ISU would again close the gap to just three points midway through the set, but the Bears would slow the momentum before a 7-3 run would secure a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
ISU was held at bay in the third frame, notching just 10 points in the set.
