BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana State dropped the nightcap to the host Hoosiers, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-14). The Sycamore (1-2) offense was led by
Cassie Kawa who recorded a team-high eight kills on 18 attacks for a .389 attacking percent. Junior
Laura Gross was named to the Indiana Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Laura Gross and
Sarah Peterson added four kills each while
Rachel Griffin assisted on 22 kills for the Trees.
It was a battle throughout the opening set as both teams traded blows up to 13 points each, but an 8-2 run from the host Hoosiers (3-0) put distance between the two as IU cruised to an opening set win. In the first set, ISU was held to just .107 hitting.
It was much of the same for the Sycamores in the second set as both team's rallied back-and-forth early, but again the Hoosiers grabbed the momentum with another run midway through action. Indiana State notched points late but it was too late as the IU attack capitalized to take the set 25-20.
The Sycamores started slow in the third set before sophomore
Kelcie Basan recorded consecutive points on the serve to help the Sycamores close the gap to 7-5. IU would come back with an 8-2 run to seize any momentum the Sycamores had. The rest was academic as Indiana cruised to the victory.
For the match, Indiana out-hit the Sycamores .275 to .137. Jessica Leish led IU with nine kills.
The Sycamores will head to Iowa City, Iowa next weekend for the Hawkeye Classic. They will begin play Friday against Coastal Carolina and Omaha before wrapping up the Classic against Omaha again and host Iowa Saturday.
