SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – No. 3 seed Indiana State fell to No. 2 seeded Dallas Baptist, 6-2, Thursday afternoon at Hammons Field in Springfield, Missouri. The loss forces the Sycamores (28-25) into an elimination game with Evansville Friday morning at 10 a.m. ET. If the Sycamores win their contest against the Aces, they will get a rematch with DBU at 5 p.m. ET.

Dallas Baptist (38-19) got on the board first with an RBI double from Garrett Wolforth in the second before the Sycamores answered back with two runs of their own in the fourth.

Dane Giesler blasted his 16
th home run of the season to left center before senior

Clay Dungan on a base hit to left.

DBU wasted no time regaining the lead as Tim Millard sent a two-run homer into the bullpen in left field in what would be the go-ahead runs for the Patriots. DBU added two more runs in the fifth as Evan Sandmann hit a ball up the middle, scoring runners from second and third. The Patriots added an insurance run in the seventh.

The Sycamores had opportunities in the middle innings to regain the lead when they put runners at second and third in both the fifth and seventh innings, but were unable to capitalize on either chance.

Tyler Ward was charged with the loss, giving up four runs in the game. The right-hander held the high-powered offense of DBU at bay for much of his outing but was ran out of the game in the fifth as the Patriots were patient at the plate, forcing Ward to throw over 100 pitches in 4.1 innings. With the loss, the sophomore falls to 4-5 on the season.

Dungan was the only Sycamore to record multiple hits, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Jordan Martinson was solid for the Patriots, giving up just two runs and striking out six in 6.1 innings as he improved to 9-3. Devlin Granberg, Matt Duce, Tim Millard and Evan Sandmann each finished the contest 2-for-4 at the plate for DBU.
