SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Indiana State baseball dropped its series finale with No. 13 Missouri State, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Hammons Field in Springfield as the Bears secured the series sweep. With the loss, the Sycamores fell to 24-23 overall and 10-8 in Missouri Valley Conference play. MSU moves to 36-14 overall while remaining perfect in MVC play at 17-0.

Sycamore starting pitcher
Ryan Keaffaber (3-5) put together a strong outing in his ninth start, going 5.1 innings and allowing the high-powered Bears' offense just three runs in that time. The southpaw struck out four batters and did not allow a walk.

After the Bears scored a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, Indiana State came out in the sixth with the first two runners in
Ryan Toliver and
Tyler Friis reaching on back-to-back singles. The Sycamores moved both runners over on a sac bunt before Missouri State picked up a strikeout and groundout to end the threat.

Missouri State took that momentum in the field and turned it into four runs in the sixth starting with a leadoff home run from Blake Graham. MSU followed the home run with a double, three singles and a hit-by-pitch en route to the four-run frame.

That was all Missouri State needed to hold off the Sycamores who showed a little life late in the game after Toliver singled in
Kyle Moore from second and
Dane Giesler hit his 14
th home run of the season on a leadoff homer in the eighth.

MSU starter Doug Still moved to 7-1 on the year after going 6.2 innings and striking out 10 ISU batters.

The Sycamores were outhit for the third straight game, 14-7. Over the last 24 innings, ISU went for just eight hits.

The Sycamores return to Bob Warn Field for the finale four games of the regular season Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET when Ball State comes to town for a midweek contest. The team will host Wichita State later in the week to close out the regular season.
