Sycamores Take Opener of Doubleheader, 5-4; Game Two Suspended In Fourth

TERRE HAUTE – Indiana State baseball picked up a 5-4 win over Bradley in the opening game of a scheduled doubleheader Friday afternoon before lightning and rain caused the suspension of game two in the bottom of the fourth with Bradley leading 3-2.

Game two is scheduled to resume play Saturday at 2 p.m. ET. Game three of the series will begin shortly after the conclusion of the second game, weather permitting.

An eighth inning rally from Indiana State secured the win for the Sycamores over Bradley at Bob Warn Field. Trailing 4-3 with two outs in the eighth, Tyler Friis doubled down the line in left field before Dane Tofteland brought him home to tie the ballgame with a double of his own. Senior Tony Rosselli brought in the go-ahead run with a single to right.

Indiana State bats caught fire with back-to-back-to-back home runs from Tofteland, Dane Giesler and Rosselli in the fourth to break the scoreless ballgame. It was the first time in two seasons that ISU has recorded three home runs in a row.

Bradley came back to put up a four-spot and take the lead in the fifth off six hits.

Triston Polley entered out of the bullpen to pick up the win, improving to 3-2 on the season. The left-hander tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball, striking out the side in the eighth. Austin Conway recorded his eighth save of the season after closing out the ninth.

Tyler Ward earned the no decision after going 6.1 innings in the start. The Santa Claus, Indiana native struck out three and allowed four runs in the outing.

Tofteland and Rosselli each finished with a pair of hits and RBIs each to lead the Sycamores.

Derek Bangert led Bradley with a 3-for-4 outing, including a double and RBI.
