Sycamores Walk Off Eastern Illinois to Win Fourth Straight, 2-1

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Clay Dungan played hero Tuesday afternoon at Bob Warn Field when he walked off the Sycamores for the second-straight game as ISU defeated regional foe Eastern Illinois, 2-1.

Indiana State (11-9) was off and running from the start as senior Kyle Moore continued his tear at the plate with a first-pitch home run to lead off the game; his fifth homer of the season, but the Sycamore bats would be held at bay for much of the remainder of the game.

With the bases loaded and one out in the second, the Sycamores hit into a 1-2-3 double play to end the threat before being held to just one hit over the next four innings, which included 10-straight being sat down by Panthers starting pitcher Brendon Allen. Dungan broke the monotony in the seventh with a single through the right side.

Leading 1-0 in the ninth, the Sycamores went to the bullpen in Austin Conway. The right-hander popped up the first batter he saw before Joseph Duncan singled to left and stole second. Matt Albert drove in the tying run on a double down the line.

Similar to Sunday's game with Oakland, junior Tyler Friis was able to get on base to kick start the ninth. Friis later moved to third after a steal and sacrifice bunt. That was when Dungan sent a ball out to right field, deep enough for Friis to come in on a tag.

Right-hander Damon Olds had a tremendous outing out of the bullpen, going 5.1 innings and striking out five of the 18 batters he faced.

Justin Hill gave up just one hit in 2.1 innings in his start while Austin Conway picked up the win, moving to 2-1 on the year.

The Sycamores will have an unusual break in action this weekend before returning to the diamond Wednesday, March 29 when they head to Bloomington to take on Indiana for one game before heading to Champaign for a three-game set with the Fighting Illini.
