Women’s Basketball Signs Five to NLIs

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State head coach Joey Wells has announced that five players have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Sycamores during the 2017-18 season. The signing class includes three high school players and two from the JUCO ranks.

The Sycamores received letters from Ty Battle (Plainfield, Ill./Oswego East HS), Kendra Boone (Memphis, Tenn./State Fair CC), Kierra Isaiah (Kansas City, Mo./Johnson County CC), Krystal Rice (Flint, Mich./Flint Hamady HS) and AJ Thomas (Detroit, Mich./North Central HS).

"We've put together an outstanding recruiting class thanks to the hard work of my staff (Josh Keister, Janet Eaton). The ability to sign five players in the early signing period of this caliber is a huge step forward in the direction we want to be moving with this program," Wells said.

"This class has a range of skills and the ability to play inside and out," he continued. "I think we'll have players in this class that will come in and have an immediate impact as soon as they step foot on campus."

Ty Battle – Plainfield, Ill. - Oswego East HS – Forward – 6-1

Battle will make her way to Terre Haute from Plainfield, Illinois where she helped lead her high school squad to a regional championship and an undefeated conference slate during the 2015-16 season. Coming into the year Battle was named the 33rd Best SF in the nation by the Dan Olsen Collegiate Girls Basketball Review. She was tabbed Second Team All-State as well as All-Conference and Conference MVP. During her junior year, Battle averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per game.

Kendra Boone - Memphis, Tenn. - State Fair CC – Forward – 6-2

Boone comes to Indiana State after a tremendous two year career as State Fair Community College where she averaged five points and five rebounds per game as a freshman. Dan Olsen Collegiate Girls Basketball Review has Boone listed as the 14th best post player in the JUCO ranks coming into this season. Last season, the forward helped the Roadrunners to a 22-8 record and a Region XVI Championship.

Kierra Isaiah – Kansas City, Mo. – Johnson County CC – Forward – 6-0

Isaiah comes from a winning pedigree at Johnson County CC where she was a part of a NJCAA National Championship run while helping her squad to a conference title and a 31-1 record just a year ago. She averaged 5.4 points per game and 4.4 rebounds for the Cavaliers last season. A two-year starter at Hogan Prep in Kansas City, she averaged a double-double her senior year with 21.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per game while leading Hogan Prep to a 17-10 record and a 3A District title.

Krystal Rice - Flint, Mich. - Flint Hamady HS – Guard – 5-8

Rice comes to the Sycamores after a four-year career at Flint Hamady High School where she led her squad to three district titles, two regional titles and a state runner-up finish in 2015. She brings with her three All GAC All-Conference honors as well as a Runner-Up All-State recognition. A multisport athlete for the Hawks, Rice also played volleyball and softball.

AJ Thomas - Detroit, Mich. - North Central HS – Forward – 5-10

Thomas, a four-year letterwinner out of North Central High School in Indianapolis will round out the 2016-17 class. Coming into the season Thomas has been tabbed the 9th best small forward in the state of Indiana by Scouting Indiana Girls-Brandon Bradley.  She brings with her to the Sycamores several individual awards including All-Conference recognition as well as All-State accolades. A multisport athlete for the Panthers, Thomas also participated in softball, volleyball and track & field.
