No. 12 Huskies Walk Off Sycamores in Series Finale, 3-2

SEATTLE - No. 12 Washington salvaged a series split with the Indiana State Sunday afternoon at Husky Ballpark, walking off the Sycamores on a throwing error for a 3-2 win.

The Huskies led off the ninth with a double before ISU (7-9) intentionally walked the next UW batter to set up a force out situation. The Sycamores picked up an out on a bunt attempt on a foul ball before Austin Conway struck out the next batter. With two outs and runners on first and second, Conway induced a slow chopper to shortstop that would be thrown away, allowing the runner to come home from second.

The walk-off error overshadows the late-game heroics from Jasper, Indiana native Dane Giesler who tied the ballgame at two with the first pitch he saw in the top of the ninth with a solo shot over the right-field wall - his third home run of the season.

The Huskies (9-6) had an opportunity in the seventh to plate a pair of runs after UW's Levi Jordan sent a ball straight up the middle but freshman Danny Camilo made the diving stop to hold Husky lead to just one at 2-1.

Both teams notched runs in the second in what was for the most part a pitcher's duel between Tyler Ward and Chris Micheles. Jeff Zahn put the Trees out on top on an RBI single to right center, scoring Cody Gardner who walked with two outs before going to second on a balk.

Washington answered the call in the bottom half on a triple to the wall for score John Naff from first. UW added a run in the sixth after MJ Meggs singled through the infield with two outs.

Ward, a Santa Claus, Indiana native had another strong outing for the Sycamores after allowing just three hits and a pair of runs in 6.1 innings. The right-hander retired the Washington side in order three times en route to the no decision.

Damon Olds and Triston Polley put together solid showings out of the bullpen for ISU. Olds went an innings and did not allow a hit or run while Polley struck out one in two-thirds of an inning.

Indiana State closer Austin Conway (0-1) is charged with the loss after striking out two in two-thirds of an inning. His run was unearned.

Both teams went for five hits with the difference being an error for the Sycamores.

Alex Hardy picked up his third win of the year for UW after coming in from the bullpen in the ninth for the Huskies.

The Sycamores will open their home slate Friday at Bob Warn Field when they host Oakland in a three-game series. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET. For ticket information, click HERE.
