PEORIA, Ill. – Indiana State women's basketball fell to Bradley 54-41 Sunday afternoon inside the Renaissance Coliseum in Peoria. The Sycamores fall to11-11 on the season while the Braves improve to 9-13. Both teams now sit at 5-6 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
Senior forward
Rhagen Smith led the Sycamores on the day, recording her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore
Tierra Webb chipped in nine points on 4-of-6 shooting. No other Sycamore scored more than four points.
The Sycamores led by eight points at the 7:29 mark of the second quarter after starting off the period scoring the first six points. That was when the Braves finally got things going. BU went on to outscore ISU 15-10 in the quarter to take a 27-24 lead into the locker room.
Indiana State struggled offensively for the remainder of the contest, scoring just 17 points over the final 20 minutes of play. Bradley doubled up ISU in the final 27:29 minutes of the game, outscoring ISU 42-21 en route to the win.
The battle of the boards tilted in favor of the Braves midway through the first half, and it showed on the scoreboard. Bradley grabbed 47 rebounds on the day while the Sycamores were held to 40. Both teams managed 13 offensive rebounds.
For the game, Indiana State shot just 27 percent (17-of-63) from the field while connecting on just two 3-pointers on 19 attempts. The Braves drained five triples but did much of their damage at the charity stripe where they shot 11-of-17.
Bradley's Danielle Brewer had a career day, more than doubling her scoring average in the first half alone. The forward finished the game with 18 points including four 3-pointers. Leti Lerma grabbed a game high 16 boards and scored 11. It marked the second time this season the forward has recorded a double-double against the Sycamores.
Indiana State will return home for the next three games, beginning with a Sunday afternoon matchup with Loyola February 12. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside the Hulman Center.
