No. 25 Drake Runs Away From Sycamores Friday Night, 64-45

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. No. 25 Drake won its 14th straight overall and ninth straight road game Friday night inside the Hulman Center, defeating Indiana State, 64-45 in front of 1,777 fans.

Indiana State (12-12, 6-7 MVC) was led by Rhagen Smith who finished with 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Freshman Ashli O'Neal added eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers and an assist.

DU's Lizzy Wendell was held to just five points in the game. Coming into Friday night Wendell had scored in double-digits in 102-consecutive games.

Drake (21-4, 14-0 MVC) blew the game open in the third quarter by capping off an 8-0 run with a corner three to extend its lead to 49-31 after a missed layup by the Sycamores on the other end. Overall DU outscored Indiana State 20-9. The rest was academic.

The Bulldogs shot a blistering 46 percent (12-of-26) from the field in the first half led by Brenni Rose who connected on a trio of 3-pointers in 11 minutes of action. As a team, Drake drained six of their 14 attempts from behind the arc in the first half.

DU opened the game on a 10-0 run before freshman Ashli O'Neal was able to put the Sycamores on the board three minutes into the game. The Sycamores spent much of the first 20 minutes digging out of that hole, pulling to as close as six points in the half. Drake ended the half with a 3-pointer at the buzzer to take a 32-22 lead into the locker room.

Drake was led by Rose who finished the game with 14 points. Becca Hittner and Becca Jones scored 10 apiece for the Bulldogs.

Drake capitalized on its chances at the charity stripe, connecting on 12-of-15 attempts. The Bulldogs also shot 10-of-19 (52.6 percent) from downtown while the Sycamores shot just 5-of-18.

Indiana State will return to action Sunday at noon when they play host to Northern Iowa. The game will serve as the team's "Pink Game". Fans are encouraged to wear pink to raise awareness for breast cancer and to honor survivors. The game will be part one of a doubleheader as the Indiana State men will host Southern Illinois at 4 p.m.
