TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State head coach
Curt Mallory finalized his first true signing class Wednesday afternoon following the addition of four National Letters of Intent on National Signing Day. Indiana State inked 26 NLI's during the Early Signing Period in December to bring the class total to 30 incoming student-athletes for the 2018 season.
"I think we have put together a tremendous group of young men that will first and foremost represent this program and university in a first-class manner and are going to help us win championships," Mallory said of the group.
"We wanted to get size and physicality up front and I think as a whole we were able to get five offensive linemen and three interior guys that we really needed. It's always going to start up front in the trenches and I think we signed young men that we feel physically can come in and help us immediately."
Of the 30 signees, 22 are high school commits and six are JUCO transfers. The Sycamores also added one FBS transfer (Kentucky) while signing one international student-athlete.
The Sycamores gained eight from within the state of Indiana alone and six from Illinois – a key point for Mallory and his staff.
"We are always going to start in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley and go from there to other parts of the state and the region. That is always going to be our main focus."
