CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Indiana State football's season came to a close Saturday in Cedar Falls as the Sycamores dropped their regular season finale to No. 24 Northern Iowa 41-3 inside the UNI Dome.
The Sycamores (0-11, 0-8 MVFC) took the lead on the opening drive on a career-long 48-yard field goal from
Jerry Nunez, but that would be all the scoring for the Trees would have on the day.
The Panthers 7-4, 6-2 MVFC) answered ISU's score with a 10 play - 68-yard drive that was capped off with a four-yard passing touchdown to go ahead 7-3. The Sycamores looked poised to answer the bell the very next possession, but a blocked 53-yard field goal attempt set up UNI in good field position and the Panthers kicked a field goal to extend their lead to 10-3.
Northern Iowa scored 41 unanswered points as they cruised to a Senior Day win in front of 8,232 fans.
In total, the Sycamore defense was on the field for 36:27 seconds and was unable to pick up key stops on Panther third downs. UNI opened the third quarter with a 17 play, 9:12 drive that ended in a touchdown.
