TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State Baseball squad improved to 19-11 this evening with a solid 4-1 win over another in-state rival, Purdue (4-21, 0-6 Big Ten). Junior lefty Weston Rivers earned his first win of the season on the mound, while freshman Triston Polley earned his first save of the season.
The Sycamores got on the board early in the first inning when senior Andy DeJesus was walked, and then came around to score on Missouri Valley conference Player of the Week, Andy Young's double to left center. Young would then come around, scoring on senior Kaden Moore's single up the middle, putting Indiana State up 2-1.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Sycamores tallied another run to go up 4-0 on the Boilermakers, this time on a solo home run from Owen, his fourth of the season.
The Boilermakers made an effort to come back, scoring one in the sixth, but no more as they trailed the Sycamores by three.
Rivers threw a solid outing going for five innings, giving up only two hits, and striking out five Boilermaker batters in 21 batters faced. Picking up the save on the mound, freshman Triston Polley threw to nine batters for three innings, while striking out four.
