RALEIGH, N.C. – Miscues ailed the Sycamores in tonight's match-up against No. 13 N.C. State (14-4, 1-2 ACC). Indiana State Baseball (10-6, 0-0 MVC) would fall to the Wolfpack 8-3 in the first game of the midweek, two-game series.
The Sycamores started off big with a solo home run from senior Andy Young, his first of the season. The senior from Fargo, N.D. also held down the hot corner, diving left and right to retire batters early in the game.
Indiana State would not keep the lead for long, as the Wolfpack struck back in the second inning, scoring one, and then adding seven more in the fourth inning, capitalizing on Sycamore miscues in the field.
Threatening in the top of the fourth, Young started things off with his eleventh walk of the season, while junior Hunter Owen was hit by a pitch for the fifth time so far, but no runs would score.
Owen started things off in the top of the sixth inning with a walk, and senior Kaden Moore followed with a hit by pitch. Sophomore Tyler Friis then singled to give the Sycamores their second run of the game, but that would not be enough to rally back.
Friis led the Sycamores with two hits, whil Young finished with a solo home run, Owen was 1-for-2 with a walk and a hit by pitch, and junior Bryce Paxson was 1-for-1 with a RBI pinch hit in the loss.
The Sycamores will be back in action on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. ET for the final game at No. 13 N.C. State, before returning home for the home opener on Saturday.
