BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Junior Hunter Owen's perfect day at the plate and senior Daniel Peterson's performance on the mound led Sycamore Baseball (9-5, 0-0 MVC) past the Davidson Wildcats (7-7, 0-0 Atlantic 10) in a 7-1 victory.
The Sycamores struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Owen hit his first homerun of the 2016 season. Owen added another RBI in the bottom of the third inning as he doubled to plate freshman Clay Dungan who singled earlier in the inning.
Davidson would plate one run in the top of the fifth inning, but the Sycamores would answer with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Indiana State tallied another three runs in the bottom of the fifth as the Davidson pitching staff could not find the zone, walking in two runs and hitting Owen with a pitch to score another.
Senior Daniel Peterson (3-1) was as consistent as he has been all year in the win over the Wildcats. Peterson threw eight complete innings, striking out 10 Wildcats, giving up only four hits and walking one batter.
Owen finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while senior Andy DeJesus tallied two RBIs.
The Sycamores will be back in action on Sunday as they finish off the Campbell Invitational against the host Campbell Camels at 3:00 p.m. ET. Be sure to follow the team on Twitter and Facebook throughout the season for updates.
