ST. LOUIS – Junior All-American distance runner David Timlin has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's Male Track Athlete of the Week, the Valley announced Tuesday afternoon.
David Timlin, Junior, Distance, Chicago, Ill. (Lane Tech HS)
Junior All-American distance runner David Timlin has been on fire as of late, and he proved that he has no plans of slowing down at IU on Friday. Timlin ran the first sub-8:00 3,000-meter race in school history at IU, finishing third and clocking in at a new school-record time of 7:58.59 – shattering All-American John Mascari's previous record by nearly 10 seconds. At the time he ran it, Timlin ranked 10th in the NCAA in the 3K and was the 22nd American athlete this indoor season to break the eight-minute barrier in the race; Timlin now ranks 34th in the NCAA and one of 53 American runners this season to break eight minutes after a tremendous weekend of distance races around the country. This race is even more impressive considering that he was one week off nearly breaking the four-minute barrier in the mile at Notre Dame, winning the prestigious Meyo Mile race at a new school-record time of 4:00.42.
