Joshua Appel named STATS FCS First-Team All-American

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – For the second-straight season, long snapper Joshua Appel has been voted a First-Team All-American by STATS FCS.

Appel, a senior finance major from Normal, Ill., is widely regarded as one of the finest long snappers in the nation regardless of division – as evidenced by his success at the nationally regarded Chris Rubio long snapping camp held each summer. Appel is a two-time defending champion of the Rubio camp, which features the top Division I long snappers in the nation.

Appel played and started in all 48 games of his Indiana State career as the Sycamores' long snapper without a single botched snap. Appel was also named a First-Team All-American by STATS and HERO Sports for the 2015 season, and has been a two-time Preseason All-American in 2015 (Second-Team) and 2016 (First-Team). In his career, Appel has also been named a two-time First-Team All-MVFC honoree and a two-time MVFC All-Academic Team member.

Appel is Indiana State Football's 62nd All-American honoree, the 22nd Sycamore to earn any variation of the First-Team honor. Indiana State has now earned First-Team honors in three straight seasons (LB Connor Underwood was a First-Team honoree in 2014), marking the first three-year run since 1993-95 (G Shawn Moore, 1993; DT Dan Brandenburg, 1994-95).

A total of 15 MVFC student-athletes were named to the All-America team, with seven total First-Teamers including Appel.
