INDIANAPOLIS – Butler led from start to finish as the Bulldogs snapped a six-game losing streak Sunday afternoon as the Bulldogs ran past the Indiana State women's basketball team, 66-48, inside Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Ashley Taia led the team with 14 points and six rebounds. Tierra Webb and Rhagen Smith added seven each for the Sycamores.
Butler continued to get off to a quick start after opening the game on a 15-0 run. Regan Wentland hit a layup with 3:50 left in the first period to put ISU on the board. The Sycamores struggles continued in the second period while Butler scored at will, finishing the half shooting 50 percent (15-of-30).
The Sycamores (5-5) were able to get the offense going in the third, outscoring BU 17-14. Webb and Smith each went for five points in the period. Indiana State scored five of their 17 points in the frame from the free throw line. For the game, ISU was 11-of-16 (68.8) from the charity stripe.
The Bulldogs (3-7) turned 11 Indiana State turnovers into 17 points. The Bulldog bench came up big, scoring 30 points led by Taylor Buford (12) and Sydney Shelton (10). Scoring came easy to the Bulldogs on the day, as 17 of BU's 24 field goals were assisted on.
Butler outrebounded ISU, 42-36 even though the Sycamores recorded 15 offensive boards. Tori Schikel led all scorers with 16 points while pacing the way with eight boards for BU.
The Sycamores will enjoy a short break in action for finals week before Tulsa will head to the Hulman Center December 21. Tipoff is scheduled for noon with the Golden Hurricane.
