Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Three Sycamores went for double-digit kills Friday night against Drake but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs picked up a 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 34-32, 25-23) victory over the Indiana State volleyball team at the ISU Arena.
 
Bree Spangler and Cassie Kawa each accounted for 16 kills on the night while Melody Burdette added 14 on 35 attempts for the Sycamores who fell to 10-19 and 4-13 in the Missouri Valley. Rachel Griffin eclipsed the 50-assist mark for the fifth time this season after going for 51 on the night. Senior Shannon Murphy led ISU with 17 digs.
 
Indiana State looked to capture momentum in the second set after coming back from an early deficit. After Sarah Peterson gave the Sycamores a 16-15 advantage midway through, ISU did not look back, capping off the set win with a service ace from Spangler; one of two for the senior on the night.
 
The Sycamores battled in their longest set of the MVC season in the third as both teams went back and forth all the way until Drake edged ISU late with a Kyla Inderski kill and an attacking error to take the set, 34-32.
 
Drake (16-15, 7-10 MVC) would use that momentum to take the set, 25-23 in the fourth and decisive set. Two seniors in Inderski and Burdette put together very strong sets with Inderski going for eight kills while Burdette had five. Kawa did everything she could to will the Sycamores to a fifth set, but her seven kills during the set were not enough as the Sycamores could not complete the comeback.
 
Inderski led the Bulldogs with 15 kills while Chandelle Davidson (27) and Paige Aspinwall (26) split duties as the setter position. Michelle Thommi recorded a match high 28 digs.
 
Indiana State will finish the regular season Saturday as they welcome Northern Iowa to the ISU Arena. Three seniors in Bree Spangler, Melody Burdette and Shannon Murphy will be honored prior to the match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
