CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Indiana State women's basketball team used a 23-8 fourth quarter to get past Cincinnati Saturday night at Fifth Third Arena. It marks the fourth straight win over the Bearcats in the series as the Sycamores improve to 9-1 all-time against UC.
Wendi Bibbins led the way for Indiana State (2-1) as she recorded her second consecutive double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. The junior finished 5-of-7 from the field while connecting on 4-of-5 free throws.
ISU also had great performances out redshirt freshman McKenzy Telfair sophomore Tierra Webb who had 10. Telfair finished with a career-best 12 points, including a 3-pointer to put the Sycamores on top 54-51 with 2:48 remaining in the game. Webb dropped 10 points and three rebounds in 25 minutes of action.
Turnovers were the story for the Sycamores for three quarter as Cincinnati (2-1) was able to take advantage of 25 ISU miscues, converting them into 17 point. The Sycamores would limit the turnovers in the fourth and crank up the defensive pressure to secure the win.
The Sycamores saved the best for last as Bibbins scored nine of her 14 in the second half while Telfair netted eight of her 12 during the half as well. As a team, ISU shot 21-of-52 (40.4) from the field, but 7-of-9 in the fourth. The team also dropped in eight 3-pointers with Sophus hitting 3-of-4 to lead the way.
The Sycamores trailed 20-13 after one quarter but got things going on the offensive end, outscoring the Bearcats 22-15 in the second to tie the game heading into halftime.
Graduate Diamonisha Sophus dropped in nine points, five rebounds and five assists in 31 minutes for the Sycamores while Rhagen Smith pulled down eight rebounds and accounted for seven points.
The Sycamores won the battle on the glass, outrebounding Cincinnati 49-31 on the game with 12 rebounds coming on the offensive side of the ball. The team was able to convert those opportunities into 12 points.
Indiana State trailed for 28:36 of the contest before Telfair's trey put them ahead for good with 2:48 left to play. Cincinnati led by as many as nine points in the first quarter.
Antoinette Miller led Cincinnati with 16 points on the night on 7-of-11 shooting.
Indiana State returns to action Tuesday at Mizzou. Tip is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET from Columbia, Mo.
